Deep Margin Elevation
What is deep margin elevation?
Deep margin elevation is a restorative technique that restores tooth structure from caries or cracks that continue below the gum.
At Alleman Dental we use advanced isolation techniques to access deep parts of the tooth without surgery and microscopes to treat your tooth with precision.
Tooth structure affected by decay or cracks is removed, the exposed dentin is sealed to prevent reinfection and sensitivity and the deep area is restored with composite that mimics the flexibility and function of a natural tooth.
Benefits of deep margin elevation for patients
Deep margin elevation is the conservative approach
Deep margin elevation allows deep caries and cracks to be treated and restored, compared to traditional recommendations of full-coverage crowns, endodontic treatment or extraction for deep defects. Just like biomimetic restorations at the surface of your tooth, deep margin elevation seals bacteria out and reconnects the tooth to prevent cracks, returning your tooth to natural function.
Save treatment and recovery time with deep margin elevation
The traditional alternative to deep margin elevation is crown lengthening surgery. Crown lengthening surgery removes gum tissue to expose more of the tooth’s root, giving access to treat deep pathologies. While this is still necessary in severe cases, deep margin elevation can replace surgery for many patients. Recovery time for crown lengthening surgery requires weeks before the treatment can be completed, whereas deep margin elevation takes place during your treatment time.
